Data Access

The White Mountain Research Station facilitates the sharing of data among researchers in several ways:

  1. By maintaining the Eastern Sierra Geospatial Data Clearinghouse, a node of the Federal Geographic Data Committee's National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse.  The clearinghouse is a network of servers around the world which provide metadata describing available geospatial data pertaining to their areas.  A single query to the clearinghouse can be directed to numerous servers in the clearinghouse
  2. By providing direct web-based queries to WMRS databases.  Currently the WMRS Publications database is available for queries.  We expect to make other databases available for online queries in the future.
  3. By providing assistance with creation of metadata.  Data must be described accurately by the creators in order to be of use to other researchers.  Several standards for metadata are used.  If you are a WMRS researcher and would like more information about metadata please contact the WMRS data manager.
