Description:
Abstract:
The University of California White Mountain Research Station gathers meteorological data at three high-elevation sites in the White Mountains in eastern California. Daily maximum and minimum temperature, relative humidity, vapor pressure saturation, and barometric pressure are available. Precipitation data will become available in summer, 2000.
Purpose:
These data describe meteorological conditions at selected locations in the White Mountains. They may be useful to researchers doing field work in the area to document conditions under which research was carried out. They may also be of use for meteorological and climatological research.
Supplemental_Information:
In addition to the daily totals, data are recorded at intervals throughout each day. These data may be obtained by special arrangement. Temporal coverage is not complete due to difficulty of winter access for downloading data.

Positions of weather stations were located with a Trimble GeoExplorerII GPS unit. Locations were exported as an ArcView shapefile projected in UTM Zone11 NAD27. Coordinates were then converted to decimal degrees for this document.

Process_Description:
The CR10X datalogger polls the wind spped, wind direction, precipitation, temperature, and saturation vapor pressure sensors every 3 seconds. This small polling interval is used in order to maximize the chances of recording wind gusts. Data from the 3-second readings are used for calculating the daily maximum and minimum values, which are recorded at midnight each day. Data are downloaded from the CR10X dataloggers to a laptop computer. Data are then imported into MSAccess97 Database.

Entities consist of locations (Barcroft Station and Crooked Creek Station) at which weather stations have been placed. Attributes are the measurements which are made at the weather stations. Temperature (Celsius) and relative humidity are recorded with Vaisala HMP35CL probes. Wind Speed (miles per hour) is recorded with an RM Young model 05103 wind sensor. Precipitation is measured with a Texas Electronic TE525USW-L raingage and CS705 tipping bucket. Barometric pressure (millibars) is recorded with a Vaisala CS105 barometer. At the Barcroft Station only, a Vaisala PTB200 barometer is used. Data from all sensors are recorded with a Campbell CR10X datalogger.
