NEW: UC WMRC 75th Anniversary Symposium

UC White Mountain Research Center is pleased to announce the online launch of its 5th symposium volume.

UC White Mountain Research Center is pleased to announce the online launch of its 5th symposium volume titled, “Anthropology to atmospheric dynamics at altitude: Celebrating 75 years of
multidisciplinary research at the White Mountain Research Center in eastern California
.”

Spearheaded by Dr. Amalie Orme and Dr. Jeff Holmquist, this peer-reviewed volume features a broad array of disciplines, ranging from astrophysics to ecology, and includes contributions from investigators with decades of research in the area as well as early-career researchers.  A “lightning paper” format has been chosen for this volume, and articles are designed to be short and engaging. Artworks by various individuals associated with WRMC are featured throughout the publication. WMRC is excited to have produced this open-access volume, and we think that you will find it compelling.

The volume can be accessed publicly via eScholarship and through a volume DOI. A DOI, eScholarship link, and keywords and other metadata were established for each article; each will be fully searchable via search engines.

This volume is dedicated to the memory of former WMRC Director Tony Orme, who passed in May, 2020.  Tony was instrumental, along with current Director Glen MacDonald, in shepherding WMRC through a difficult transition period during 2012-13.  It would not be an exaggeration to state that Tony saved WMRC, and he did so via a tremendous effort.  All the more remarkable is that Tony took on this task after he had initially retired from 46 years as an accomplished UCLA professor of geography.  We are greatly indebted to Tony, and we think that this dedication is particularly appropriate, because he had been eager to see the symposium series revived.  We hope that he would be pleased.
